Beth Carter, LPC
Belmar Location
Hi! My name is Beth Carter, and I am a therapist working with individuals and families in all stages of life, from children to teens to adults to seniors. I have come to counseling as a career later in life, after a long career as a dentist. My own counseling has been life changing for me, so instead of retiring, I decided to have a second chapter, and work to bring the same growth and healing I have experienced to others.
From joining kids in the playroom, to heading outside with a teenager to walk and talk, to strolling down memory lane with a senior, I relish all the ways counseling can be healing at every age!
As a therapist, I am person-centered, compassion-focused, and believe in the fundamental wellness and potential of all human beings. Trauma and attachment issues are fundamental to my understanding of each person’s experience. I am dedicated to helping those from all walks of life find healthy attachments, emotional strength and loving connections.
As an adopted individual myself, I have a soft spot in my heart for all those who have been touched by adoption. I am deeply aware of the many challenges that adoptive families face and work hard to support adopted children and their families navigate their unique experience with love, confidence, and grace.
I am a mom of two grown children, two grown stepchildren, and I am also a grandmother. I have a deep love of the outdoors and can be found hiking all over the mountains on any given day. I am also an avid runner, skier, reader, and traveler, and cooking for my family and friends brings me joy.
I graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in Biology and went on to dental school at the University of the Pacific in San Francisco. After years of practice, I decided to go back to my alma mater, Northwestern, and earned my Master of Arts in Counseling.
My core training is psychodynamic, but I utilize interventions from several different philosophies, including ACT, DBT CBT, mind and body connection, and mindfulness. I am trained in Nurturing Parenting, and Trust Based Relational Interventions. I hope to assist any and all children, families, teens and adults who are struggling with emotional challenges to find strength, loving connections, and hope in their lives.
